T to the T!

The first time trial of this year’s Team Mcallen Time Trial series starts off tomorrow at J.R. Memorial Park kicking off the day with the first rider at 8 in the morning.

I’m just hoping to keep my bike under me tomorrow, as I don’t really know how my legs are going to feel tomorrow, since we have just recently started the hard part of the training. One thing is for certain though, it’s going to be a long, treacherously painful 10 miles! I’m not at the point in my fitness level of the racing season yet where I can dig deep yet, but hopefully I’ll get an awesome enough playlist going on today on my iPod to get myself loose tomorrow and make good time!

Race Season is Upon Us!

Race season is finally here!

All of our tens of thousands of miles during cold weather (cold meaning less than 70 degrees), dieting (it’s opposite day ..so I did A LOT of dieting during the winter!), and loss of sleep (or getting too much of it, can anyone say sleeping at 8:30 at night to wake up at 5 in the morning to ride, just because we love sleep that much? who’s with me!?) will finally be paying off in the next few months.

The USAC racing season officially kicks off this weekend with the Castroville race (I’m not sure if the San Antonio race that Carlo V. is racing at is USAC) but good luck to everyone planning on racing this season. If you don’t think you’re ready to race, just take a leap! You might just surprise yourself and love the adrenaline pumping action of chasing down a breakaway during a race!

Cold.. in the Valley?!

This morning’s shop ride was intense! We headed out from the shop at 8, and headed down for our usual saturday route.

So there we were, cruising at 20-21 down military, and it was Carlo and I pulling the group up the overpass. It was at a tough pace, but it was do-able for everyone in the group. Once we pull off, I motion for the next person to take a pull since I was winded and stuff, but lo and behold, SURGE THE URGE starts an attack from the back.. here I was thinking it was gonna be a nice little sprint finish after a relaxed ride all the way to the Stripes on 10th; hoping actually, since Spish had to leave early to head to a work meeting, and Carlo was using his TT bike, I knew I had a good chance to win the sprint. But anyways, when I see an attack, I make like a vicious dog and try to jump on anybody’s wheel.

The 8 man break quickly drained down to only Wally, Surge, Carlo, and myself. Wally pulled off, and the remaining competitors were Surge and Carlo. I pulled an extremely pro attack up the 23rd overpass, but it didn’t last. Carlo pulled up Surge to me (WHY, CARLO, WHY?! :[) and we continued on. Carlo saw that Surge was struggling and decided to intensify the pace, causing Surge to pull off, leaving me with a 30 foot gap to bridge, and by the time I knew it, it increased exponentially by the second.

I think we all know what happened, I caught Carlo by pulling myself at 40 MPH for 2 miles, and won by 30 minutes. Ok, no I didn’t, I won a distant second. I DID settle for tacos though.
